Description
OVERDRIVELAND / ODL-1
OVERDRIVELAND was created to express the player’s individuality with the same gloss and presence as the now hard-to-find DUMBLE amplifiers.
The designer, Free The Tone CEO Hayashi, has maintained and repaired more than 20 DUMBLE amplifiers and owned several DUMBLE amplifiers himself. DUMBLE amplifiers have unique overtones that sound distorted even when clean. And the drive sound of a DUMBLE amp pushes the player to play as if the amp has a will of its own. We started development with the idea of bringing this feeling to a pedal-type overdrive pedal.
The normal channel, which is the foundation of the OVERDRIVELAND sound, creates a crunch sound from the basic clean sound. First, set all the knobs to the center and try making a sound. The overtone component changes and the tone changes according to the strength of the picking. The normal channel has a rich tone that can lead to a variety of phrases from the player.
The normal channel also has “EQ ON/GLASS” and “ROCK/JAZZ” switches for setting the basic sound.
The EQ ON/GLASS switch sets the equalization function of the normal channel. When set to “EQ ON,” the “TONE” circuit is activated. Selecting GLASS bypasses the TONE circuit and produces a glassy tone similar to a black-faced Fender Vibroverb with the Bright switch turned on.
The “ROCK/JAZZ” switch controls the frequency response of the normal channel and the gain setting of the amplification stage. The “ROCK” side is designed for creating sounds with higher gain, so that the overall gain is increased while the gain of the low frequency range is slightly reduced. This prevents the sound from being muddled in the input stage of the amplifier due to an excessively high volume in the low frequency range. The “Jazz” side is designed to lower the overall gain and produce richer bass frequencies.
When the OVERDRIVELAND drive channel is selected, the drive circuit is added before the normal channel. In other words, from the input side, the signal flows through the drive circuit, the normal channel circuit, and then the output circuit, in that order. The drive circuit is equipped with a “HI-CUT” filter circuit for easy adjustment of the high frequency response. The “PUSH” control adjusts the signal level sent from the drive circuit to the normal channel. This “PUSH” allows the user to control the sound pressure sensation.
